Abstract

Aromatic polyazomethines belong to alternately conjugated polymers having backbones composed of alternate phenylene rings and azomethine linkages. Varying technological conditions towards increasing reagents mass transport to the substrate is expected to give such copolyazomethines thin films with containing five member active nucleus thaizole rings can result in special π electron systems rather than linear ones. In this paper, a copolyazomethines were synthesized by the polycondensation of a new diamine monomer 2, 5-Bis (4-(2-Aminothiazole) phenyl)-3, 4-diphenyl furan, with equimolar proportion of aromatic dialdehydes. Inherent viscosity of polymer was 0.91 dL/g. The copolymer showed solubility in common organic solvents as well as in formic acid and sulphuric acid. Thin films of semiconducting copolyazomethines were prepared on glass substrates using spin coating technique. Structural and Physical properties of copolyazomethines films were characterized and analyzed by FT-IR, SEM and TEM techniques and electrical resistivity measurement techniques. The presence of –C=N (azo linkage) in the copolyazomethines matrix was confirmed by FT-IR spectra. The polymer was subjected to DC conductivity (p) measurements versus temperature change (300-500 K). The plot of [log σ] versus [1/T] curve for polymer was found to be in between 9.5 x 10−7 S/cm−1 to 12.25 x 10−7 S/cm−1. The conductivity increases with increases of temperature which is the characteristic behavior of semiconductors. Copolyazomethines films are of P-type semiconducting materials having large number of free charge carriers available for the purpose of conduction. These results have been gained on copolyazomethines thin films which contain five member active nucleuses of thiazole rings.Aromatic polyazomethines belong to alternately conjugated polymers having backbones composed of alternate phenylene rings and azomethine linkages.
