Abstract

The zinc ferrite ZnFe2O4 nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized by Pechini method and calcinated at 500 °C. Calcinated ZnFe2O4 were characterized by various analytical technique to examine the structural, optical and surface morphological properties. The Powder x- ray diffraction pattern revealed that the prepared ZnFe2O4 nanoparticle exhibit face-centered cubic spinel structure and the crystallite size was found to be 24 nm. The SEM, EDS and FTIR studies provided the surface morphology, the elemental composition of prepared sample and characteristics behavioural vibration of Zn-Fe-O elements. Photodecomposition ability was studied by carrying out the photocatalytic experiments using the synthesized ZnFe2O4 under visible light. The synthesized ZnFe2O4 showed distinct property with respect to optical and photocatalytic performance. The photocatalysis results revealed that the decolorization of 68.95 % occurred for methylene blue (MB) with ZnFe2O4 samples in 180 min under visible light irradiation. The results demonstrate that the synthesized compound is a potential candidate for water remediation.
