Abstract

Abstract This essay explores courtly education for women as the context for early Minnesang and considers evidence from German courtly romance as well as from the Latin tradition. In this light it proposes a new reading of the female stanzas in the Wechsel MF 35,16, ascribed to Dietmar von Aist.
