Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical effect of the sutureless pterygium excision combined with the corneal limbal stem cell transplantation on relapse pterygium. Methods The clinical data of the 100 patients with relapse pterygium were retrospected analyzed. They had already received the operation and were divided them into the control group and the observation group randomly. The control group received the treatment of the sutures pterygium excision combined with the corneal limbal stem call transplantation, while the observation group received the treatment of the sutureless pterygium excision connected with the corneal limbal stem cell transplantation and amniotic membrane transplantation. Afterwards, the statistical comparison was conducted between the treatment outcome of the two groups. All the operations were conducted by the same operator with 6-12 months postoperative follow-up in order to observe their relapse rate. Results After receiving the corresponding treatment, the total effective rates of both observation group and control group were 98% and 96% respectively. The effective rate of the observation group was higher than that of the control group. The postoperative recurrent rates of the two groups are 2% and 4% respectively. Complications didn't happen during the two types of operations or after. There are no significant differences between the two groups(P>0.05). With the comparison of the pain of occurrence in different time points after the operation, the pain occurrence of the observation group is lower than that of the control group, which achieves higher patients' satisfaction degree. Conclusions The two types of operations which can cure relapse pterygium are proved to be safe and effective. Key words: Recurrent pterygium; Corneal limbus stem cells; No stitches
