Abstract

The results of numerical simulations of the recording process in a single layer Metal Evaporated tape as a function of the easy axis angle are reported. All other parameters were held fixed in the simulations. In the good recording direction (larger output at small wavelengths) a partial erasure of the recorded magnetization at the tape surface is predicted. This is not observed in the bad recording direction. The presence and absence of the erasure effect can be understood in the context of a simple one-dimensional model of the recording process. This erasure effect effectively limits the allowed magnitude of the easy-axis angle and the efficiency of the deposition process in ME tapes.
