Abstract
Viscoelasticity and adhesion on the surface of both ME tapes and HDD disks were measured with nanometer resolution using scanning probe microscopy. The lubricant thickness distribution was similar between ME tapes and HDD disks. Some lubricant settles in the valleys of the tape or the disk surface. The DLC layer of the ME tape is thin at some asperities.
