Abstract

Dr Anne Williams is Senior Lecturer in Education and Senior Tutor for PGCE courses at the School of Education, University of Birmingham. In 1992 the Government published new criteria for secondary initial training which challenged schools and HE to develop courses which met requirements on teacher involvement and funding within tight time and financial constraints. This paper discusses some of the emerging policy issues using as illustration the views of students, teachers and tutors involved in the implementation of a new course.
