Abstract

The doping of Bi 2Sr 2Ca(Cu 1− x M x ) 2O 8 with chromium and vanadium has been investigated. The amount of doping metal added was x=0.01−0.05. No changes in the a and b lattice parameters occured. The c lattice parameters decreased from 30.72(1) Å to 30.681 (6) Å in the chromium doped superconductor and to 30.635 (3) Å in the vanadium doped superconductor. The maximum solubility was slightly above 1% for Cr and 2% for V at 845°C. The critical temperature decreased with increasing amount of doping metal in the single-phase region. The maximum critical-temperature drop was 3.4 K for Cr and 5.6 K for V.
