Abstract
Models of a 36MW submerged arc ferrosilicon (FeSi) furnace have been developed for the simulation and evaluation of different control schemes in Hauksdóttir et al. (1995, IEEE Trans. Control System Technol, 3(4), 377–387) and (Hauksdóttir and Gestsson, 1996, Proc. 13th IFAC World Congress, San Francisco, USA, pp. 421–426). In this paper, the models developed, describing the furnace controller, the electrode positioning equipment, the dynamics from the electrode positions to the electrode currents and the disturbance environment, effectively forming a FeSi furnace simulator, will be validated for two furnaces, as well as for different operating ranges.
