Abstract

The focus of this paper is on the new idea of the Tuned Liquid Damper (TLD) used as the passive control device to reduce the structural responses to earthquake ground motion, in which the approach for controlling the multimodal responses of tall buildings and high-rise structures with the multi-TLDs is here presented. First of all, the shaking-table experiments of the TLDs-structural system are carried out. And then, the mechanical models and the equations of motion for the systems of tall buildings and high-rise structures with differently installed ways of TLDs are established based on the method of the Volume of Fluid to solve the dynamic liquid pressure and the state equation. The approach in this paper is proved effective through the comparison between the results of experiments and numerical calculations.
