Abstract

Objective To study the changes of corneal refraction after simple pterygium excision and pterygium excision with limbal stem cell transplantation. Methods The 38 patients (54 eyes)of unilateral pterygium were selected in random. They were divided into 2 groups:simple pterygium excision was taken in A group (16 cases and 21 eyes),pterygium excision with limbal stem cell transplantation was taken in B group (22 cases and 33 eyes). They all have results of naked visual acuity, corneal curvature and corneal astigmatism on pre-surgery,post-surgery 10 day and post-surgery 1 month. At last,we constrasted these results. Results In group A and B, the results of naked visual acuity, corneal curvature and corneal astigmatism on post-surgery 10 day and post-surgery 1 month were different to the results on pre-surgery in statistics. While on post-surgery 10 day or on post-surgery 1 month the changes had no statistic difference between Group A and Group B.Conclu-sions The surgeries for pterygium can change the corneal refraction. The effect of simple pterygium excision is similar to the effect of pterygium excision with limhal stem cell transplantation on corneal refraction in 1 month. Key words: Pterygium; Surgery; Corneal curvature; Astigmatism
