Abstract

Objective To describe the status of primiparas' parental self-efficacy at 3rd days, 6th weeks and 12th weeks postpartum. Methods By convenient sampling, 147 primiparas were recruited from Beijing maternity hospital. Self-efficacy in Infant Care Scale was administered to them at 3rd days, 6th weeks and 12th weeks postpartum. Results Average scores of primiparas' parental self-efficacy at 3rd days,6th weeks and 12th weeks postpartum were (78.73 ± 11.45 ), ( 80.44 ± 11.76 ), ( 83.86 ± 10.45 ), respectively ( Total score for SICS ranges from 0 to 100). There was no significant difference between parental self-efficacy score at 3rd days and 6th weeks(P >0.05). Parental self-efficacy score at 12th weeks postpartum was significantly higher than 3rd days and 6th weeks postpartum (P < 0.05 ). Conclusions Average score of primiparas'postpartum parental self-efficacy was moderate compared with former researches. Parental self-efficacy score increased with postpartum time.
