Abstract

Objective It has become increasingly important for translational medicine experiment in medical school teaching. The simple model of traditional experiment teaching has been unable to fully meet the current situation of learning requirement in translational medicine experiments of medical students. A new way of application of virtual experimental teaching to medical students’ teaching is established, combining the characteristics of virtual experiment technology and the transformation of medical curriculum, and exploring new model of transformation of medical experimental teaching technique. Methods The software was conducted and tested with the questionnaire survey among 180 undergraduate students in Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine by using the self-developed virtual laboratory of translational medicine. Results 98.3% of the students held a positive attitude towards the transformation of medical virtual laboratory courseware. 82.2% of the students confirmed the overall teaching effect. The students scoring evaluation were between 3.64 points to 4.35 points (out of 5) for the courseware in the virtual teaching method, experiment skill and evaluation methods of teaching effect.Experience of using the courseware for students' scores were between 3.50 points to 4.12 points (out of 5); at the same time, students further proposed to improve courseware in details opinions. Conclusions The virtual laboratory courseware in translational medicine can significantly improve the experimental teaching effect of medical students, so that the experimental teaching is more intuitive, more intelligent, more enriched teaching methods.
