Abstract

Results are described of analysing investigations into dielectric relaxation in 30 different polymers of acrylic and methacrylic acids, which were dealt with in various publications in the period of 1955–1974. It was shown that the temperature dependence of average relaxation time of cooperative processes τ c is described satisfactorily in every case by the equation were τ c = 10 15 sec for all substances studied and U c depends on the structure of the main chain increases from 8·0 to 13·7 kcal/mole on substituting a hydrogen atom in the main chain by a methyl group, a chlorine atom and on adding double bonds to the main chain. Using the calculations made we examine the mechanism of cooperative processes of dielectric relaxation.
