Abstract

The spin-label method was used for a study of the steric organization of the linear polyethyleneimine (PEI) macromolecules in glassy water-alcohol solutions in the course of complex formation with transition metal ions. The average local density of PEI chain units was measured, as well as PEI coil volume and the average distance spin-labels. In the case of complexes formed between the spin-labeled PEI and the Cu(II), Ni(II) and Co(II) ions the average distances between a label and the nearest paramagnetic complexes were determined experimentally. The average local concentrations of complexes in the PEI coil volume calculated from the data on their interaction with labels were found to be underestimated.
