Abstract

Objective To investigate the role of mobile medical software in improving blood glucose control of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM). Methods Using convenient sampling method, 200 patients with T2DM in the Department of Endocrinology, the Metabolic Diseases Hospital of Tianjin Medical University from January 2017 to December 2017 were enrolled, and were assigned to mobile medical software group (APP group, n=100) and telephone follow-up group(n=100) by random number method. The patients received intensive diabetic education and were trained to monitor self blood glucose by diabetes specialized nurses. After three months of follow-up by mobile medical software or telephone follow-up, the frequency of hypoglycemia, fasting blood glucose, 2-hour postprandial blood glucose, HbA1c, and score of knowledge and behavior of the two groups were evaluated. Results The frequency of hypoglycemia in APP group and telephone follow-up group were 156/8 345(1.87%) and 98/6 324(1.54%), respectively (χ2=380.856, P<0.001). Compared with time of admission, fasting blood glucose, 2-hour postprandial blood glucose on time of discharge and 3 months after discharge, HbA1c of 3 months after discharge were obviously desreased (F=4.414, 10.882, t=6.90, all P<0.05), and the score of knowledge control and behavior was increased (F=119.095, P<0.05) in the two groups. Three months after discharge, compared with the telephone follow-up group, fasting blood glucose, 2-hour postprandial blood glucose and HbA1c of APP group were decreased(F=16.822, 19.159, t=-5.12, all P<0.05), and the score of knowledge and behavior was higher(F=116.520, P<0.05). Conclusion The mobile medical software can improve blood glucose control and behavior of patients with T2DM, and is an ideal tool to manage the blood glucose control of diabetic patients.
