Abstract

Changes in the specific masses of electrodes were studied during electric spark processing of SCMnCr3 steel with anode material made of WP tungsten on an Alier-31 installation. Predominant erosion at high cathode processing energies is due to the difference in the melting/evaporation temperatures of the cathode substrate (iron) and anode (tungsten) materials. The influence of the energy of the electric spark discharge is associated with a change in the volume of the electrodes converted into liquid and gaseous states. The amplitude of the electrode-anode oscillations is influenced by changing the average volume of the interelectrode gap.
