The refractive indices of the solutions of barium soaps (valerate, caproate, caprylate, caprate and laurate) in water-propanol-1 mixtures of varying composition have been determined. It is observed that the refractive index of the soap solutions increases with the increase in alcohol as well as in the soap concentration.
