Abstract

Ionophore antibiotic monensin ( 1) was converted to 25-carboxylmonensin ( 3), which has two carboxyl groups at both ends of the molecule. Ca 2+ ion transport activity of 25-carboxylmonensin ( 3) was evaluated by the CHCl 3 liquid membrane method, and the activity was 3.1 times the value of the calcium ionophore, lasalocid A.
