Abstract
We present the results of systematic gas adsorption experiments and an advanced structural characterization of novel ordered mesoporous silica materials with 3-D cubic Ia-3d structure (KIT-6). The pore condensation and hysteresis behavior of nitrogen (at 77.4 K) and argon (at 77.4 and 87.3 K) was studied in KIT-6 materials of different porosities and various mean pore diameters (ranging from ∼ 5 nm up to 12 nm). We compare further the sorption and phase behavior of nitrogen and argon confined to this 3D cubic porous system with their behaviour in pseudo-lD pore systems (e.g. SBA-15 silica). Our results also shed light on the extent to which the so-called single pore model can be used for the pore size analysis of materials consisting of ordered pore networks.
