Abstract

CdO/ZnS core/shell nanocomposites have been synthesised at room temperature by a simple wet chemical method. The prepared materials are characterized by XRD, SEM, EDS, FT-IR, UV–Vis and Photoluminescence studies. X-ray diffraction pattern exhibits peaks correspond to cubic phase of CdO and ZnS, the evaluated average crystallite size of prepared materials are in the range of 20–30nm. The strain and dislocation density are also calculated from XRD studies. Morphology of the samples and their chemical composition are analysed by SEM with EDS. FT-IR spectrum shows the fundamental vibrational modes of CdO/ZnS. From UV–Vis spectra the band gap energies are calculated. The photoluminescence spectrum exhibits bands in visible range and the corresponding CIE coordinates are calculated.
