Abstract

Stress intensity factors are obtained for a center cracked finite sheet attached to an intact, cracked, or broken finite sheet subjected to remote stresses. The analysis is conducted by formulating the algebraic equations on compatibility of displacements between the sheets. Displacements in the cracked sheet are determined by adding the induced displacements from crack to intact sheet displacements using known stress intensity equations. The accuracy of the method is checked with known results in the literature. Then, the parametric studies are conducted for two intersecting finite sheets, and mutual interaction effects of the cracks are presented.
