Abstract
Summary: A series of 270 retropubic vesico-urethral suspension operations is presented. These have been followed up for periods ranging from 1 to 25 years. There were 17 failures, giving a cure rate of 94%. Indications for the different types of operation are discussed and the failures analysed. It is concluded that uncomplicated stress incontinence can be cured completely and permanently by the Marchetti operation.
