Abstract

The stoichiometric reactions of carbodiimides with Fischer-type, tungstencarbene complexes give isonitrile complexes and imines in good yield. The analogous chromium carbene complexes show less or no stoichiometric metathesis with carbodiimides. At elevated temperatures Fischer-type carbene complexes catalyze the metathesis of two different carbodiimides. The resulting isonitrile complexes were found to be the real catalysts rather than the original carbene complexes.
