Abstract

Stockholm Syndrome, a raging controversy, continues to be one of the most sought after topics for psychologists and researchers. Its factual aspects aside, the main question of whether it's even real, or just a creative myth remains to be the unanswered question to date. This research paper deals with the development of the Stockholm syndrome in hostage situations. In which hostages experience good sentiments toward their captors, which are reciprocated by the captors, and negative sentiments against police and other law enforcement officers. The paper enunciates as much detail on this said question as possible while providing facts, past references, experiences, relationship with regards to the law, perspectives of people from different backgrounds, etc. The paper also analyses the set of information available, with real-life practical examples showcased by different fictional characters, this helps the readers to establish the difference between Stockholm Syndrome and the Abusive relationship, further, in the end, the reader reaches the conclusion if Stockholm syndrome is even real or just a mere imagination.
