Abstract

This paper contains the description of a solution of the problem of self-acting, gas-lubricated, partial-arc, finite length journal bearings for steady-state conditions. The results can be used for bearings of many types such as smiple, fixed, partial-arc journal bearings (tapered land), axial-grooved journal bearings, pivoted-pad journal bearings, and similar geometric shapes. Sample results are plotted, and their utilization for various bearing types is illustrated by examples. Presented as an American Society of Lubrication Engineers paper at the Lubrication Conference held in Rochester, New York, October 15–17, 1963.
