Abstract

The influence of external vibration on friction phenomena was investigated. The influence of vibration on the primary displacement was assessed. The influence of the normal pressure and the amplitude of external vibration on the static friction was also investigated. Non-linear relations between the coefficient of static friction and the external vibration and between the coefficient of static friction and the normal pressure where vibration occurs were established. Static and dynamic loads on the same friction pair were studied. Sinusoidal vibration in the contact area caused a decrease in the coefficient of static friction of about 60% which is important practically, especially in this design of machine connections where vibration occurs.
