Abstract

Apressure vesselis a container designed to store the gases or liquids at apressuresubstantially different from the ambient pressure. The rocket motor casing will act as the pressure vessel. It is subjected to severe gravity forces when it is moving over different layers of the atmosphere. As the weight of the rocket motor increases, it will effects the fuel economy and size. So the weight has to be reduced by introducing composites (or) stiffeners to the pressure vessels. So in the present work pressure vessels with various stiffener designs like honey comb, triangular, square, semi-circular, rectangular, circular, helical, sector, rectangular slotted, linear x-crossed, quadratic x-crossed were modelled and analyzed by using Ansys workbench 17.0. Static structural and free vibrational analysis were performed. From the static structural analysis, total deformation, von mises, hoop stress and specific structural stiffness were calculated, natural frequencies are obtained from modal analysis. Then the best stiffener design was recommended by considering the factors as specific structural stiffness, von mises stress, weight and total deformation.
