Abstract
SummaryAscorbic acid stabilises bilirubin in aqueous alcaline solution, thanks to its antioxygene property. Using a stabilized bilirubin solution and cerumalbumin solution or plasma, high concentrations of bilirubin can be obtained even at a normal plasma pH, because of instantaneous bilirubin-albumine binding. In presence of sodium benzoate and caffeine, the diazoreaction of bilirubin is rapidly total and stable enough as to permit several photometric determinations The quantitative spectrophotometric standardization of the bilirubin diazo-value, in various media containing serumalbumine, gives reproducibles results. Practical indications of plasma volume required for total bilirubin determinations, according to plasma bilirubin concentrations, are given.
