Abstract
This paper1 tells of the creation in 1867 and early history of the Stockwell Orphanage, founded by C.H. Spurgeon to provide a home and education for 500 fatherless boys and girls. It was, in many respects, ahead of its time in the care provided.This paper was originally given by the author at the International Conference of Baptist Studies held at Acadia University, Nova Scotia, in July 2006.
