Abstract

In vol. 7 of the Zeitschrift für Katalanistik, Brigitte Schlieben-Lange initiated a discussion on the relationship between linguistic research and language policy, referring to an article by Guillem Calaforra and talking about the specific case of the controversy over Catalan in València and the role of the "argumentum ex auctoritate" in the discussion.
This short article deals with similar problems through the example of current Galician. It is postulated, first of all, that we must not forget the clear difference between science and politics, and that, therefore, the researcher, when expressing her/himself on language policy issues, should clearly state where he presents the objective results of her/his research and where s/he speaks on subjectively evaluated policy issues.
