Abstract

Abstract Test plots for the spotted alfalfa aphid (SAA) were established near Buhl, Idaho. The soil type was Portneuf silt loam and the field was irrigated by surface flow. Five treatments and an untreated check were replicated 4 times in a randomized complete block design. Each individual treatment plot was 25 × 25 ft. Sprays were applied as a broadcast spray using a C02-pressurized backpack sprayer using 30 psi and delivering 20 gal finished spray/acre. Nozzle type was X-8 (Spraying Systems) hollow cone. Pretreatment counts were made and treatments were applied on 1 Aug. The alfalfa was 6-8 inches high at the time of application. Sampling was conducted by taking five 180° sweeps/plot on each sampling date and counting the no. of SAA in the net.
