Abstract
7 couples who consulted for infertility were observed during 12 menstrual cycles. The couples had repeated normal semen analysis normal coital technique normal ovulatory cycles as determined by basic body temperature normal vaginal smears and endometrial biopsies; quality of cervical mucus was also investigated. 65 PCT (post coital tests) measured by the number of motile spermatozoa present in the cervical tract were performed between 3 to 13 hours after spontaneous sexual relations. A rise was observed in PCT results and in the quality of cervical mucus from a preovulatory low to an anovulatory plateau with a postovulatory deterioration of quality; PCT quality however deteriorated more slowly than cervical mucus quality. Results showed a superiority of 5-15% in the morphology of the spermatozoa which were able to penetrate the cervical mucus as compared to masturbated semen specimens.
