Abstract
To optimize the transfer of light to the photomultiplier the spectrometric characteristics of ionizing radiation detectors based on BGO and CWO are investigated. The average light output, the energy resolution, longitudinal and radial non-uniformity of the light output have been derived as functions of light absorption coefficient, shape and dimensions of the crystal and type of reflecting surface. The calculation method employed takes account of the dependence of the light scattering index on the incident angle and differ from known publications based on the approaches of cosine or isotropic scattering. The results of calculations allow the selection of optimal dimensions of a crystal and the reflector type.
