Abstract
Abstract Using 49.6 MeV proton beam bombarding a polypropylene target, we measured the light output response of BaF2 scintillator to protons and deuterons in the energy range between 11 and 46 MeV. Together with other data on light charged particles, we investigated the light output response for a wide range of energies, 1 E A MeV . The light output and its linearity were investigated through a normalization of our 38.9 MeV proton data. The average differential light output was extracted as a function of the stopping powers and the Birks' formula. The comparison of both turns out to be in good accord for the range of stopping powers greater than 20 MeV cm2/g, but the latter does not fit well the present data below this value.
