Abstract
Abstract Among the many puzzles presented by the Fourth Gospel one of the most intriguing is the paradoxical contrast between the titles ‘Son of God’ and ‘Son of Man’. ‘Son of God’, originally at any rate, indicates a human being, the Messiah; whereas ‘Son of Man’ points to a figure whose true home is in heaven. Divine? Well perhaps not c, or not altogether, but certainly invested by God with an c no ordinary human being would dare to claim.
