Abstract

Abstract With the rapidly increasing penetration of wireless access in the worldwide telecommunication networks, the users expect improved Quality of Service (QOS) from emerging wireless networks and systems. In order to meet these expectations, it is essentiual that suitable performance standards are developed and utilized in the design of wireless networks The paper provides a set of performance benchmarks for the design of wireless networks and systems based on current international and regional performance standards. These benchmarks which are primarily focussed on traffic performance, address network level performance (end-to end performance) targets as well as performance targets for key wireless network elements like the MSC, BSC, HLR and VLR.
