Abstract

Assured Horizon is a previously published QoS framework for optical burst switching, a promising candidate of an IP-over-WDM architecture with a granularity between circuit switching and packet switching. Assured Horizon proposes that QoS differentiation with respect to loss probabilities is provided by the optical layer as service to the IP layer under the control IP. In this paper, an introduction to OBS as well as QoS mechanisms for OBS reported in literature is presented. Furthermore, Assured Horizon is briefly summarized and a new approximative performance analysis of Assured Horizon is presented. Performance evaluations show that the it provides adjustable service differentiation based on an established teletraffic model.
