Abstract

The view according to which Greco-Roman society and the societies of the East are of the same type (slaveholding society, ancient society) has become quite widespread. Among prominent Soviet specialists on the East, this view has been upheld in recent years by I. M. D'iakonov (1), G. F. Il'in (2), M. A. Korostovtsev (3), and others.
