Abstract

The extraction of thorium from hydrochloric acid solutions by sulphoxides and their mixtures in various solvents has been investigated. The extraction increases with increase in the concentration of the acid and of the extractant. The species extracted are ThCl 4·2DPSO·HCl, ThCl 4·3DPhSO. Mixed complexes are formed with mixtures of extractants. The extraction of the metals is inversely dependent upon the dielectric constant of the solvent, the initial metal concentration and the temperature of the system.
