Abstract

Copper(II) is extracted into chloroform by pyridine in the presence of bromide, chloride, perchlorate, and salicylate ions. At pyridine concentrations between 10 −2 and 10 −1 M the extracted species have the formula Cu py 2 X 2. At higher pyridine concentrations both Cu py 3 X 2 and Cu py 4 X 2 appear to be extracted. The partition data confirms the existence of the dimer Cu 2 py 4(OH) 2 2+ in the aqueous phase at pH > 7.
