Abstract

AbstractMetrics are widely viewed as critical to the execution of large scale software development and systems integration projects. To attain high levels of maturity as defined by the Software Engineering Institute's Capability Maturity Model [Humphrey 1989], it is clear that in addition to effective project management and change controls, metrics processes need to be integrated into the activities of development projects and institutionalized within the business itself. This paper outlines how Hughes Aircraft of Canada Limited, Systems Division (HCSD) has established divisional and program‐specific metrics processes support the production of high quality, maintainable systems. The metrics activities for the Canadian Automated Air Traffic System (CAATS) are used to illustrate many of the ground‐breaking accomplishments achieved at HCSD
