Abstract
Abstract Bean seed was planted using a Planet Jr in 25 ft rows on 30 inch centers on June 5, 1975, near French Lick, Indiana. Six treatments including a check were arranged in a randomized block design with 4 replicates. Each treatment consisted of 2 sprayed rows separated from the next treatment by an unsprayed row. Soil type was silt loam with fragipans, moderate to poorly drained. Insecticides were applied on 4 dates with a compressed air sprayer at the rate of 100 gallons spray per acre, 40 psi. Mexican bean beetles (egg masses, larvae, and adults) were counted on 3 occasions: the first 2, entire plants were examined; on the third, 10 trifoliate leaves were checked. Plots were harvested by hand on July 23, 1975 (5 row feet per replicate), and weighed.
