Abstract

Abstract Bean seed was planted using a Planet Jr in 25 foot rows on 30 inch centers on June 5, 1975 near French Liclc, Indiana. Five treatments including a check were arranged in a randomized block design with 3 replicates. Each treated row was separated from the next by an untreated row. Soil type was silt loam with fragipans, moderate to poorly drained. Insec-ticides were applied on 5 dates (June 18, June 27, July 2, July 16, July 30) with a compressed air sprayer at the rate of 100 gallons spray per acre, 40 psi. Mexican bean beetles (egg masses, larvae, and adults) were counted on 3 occasions: the first 2, entire plants were examined; on the third, 10 trifoliate leaves were examined. Plots were harvested by hand on August 14 (10 row feet per repl), shelled, and weighed.
