Abstract
The available research studies on home automation and health monitoring indicate that the wire-based and Bluetooth-based systems are in vogue but it is found that there are some limitations in such systems, like higher cost, lower range, etc. This paper presents a framework for home automation, health monitoring, and surveillance system with a camera bot (robotic car) using Arduino board that employs the integration of server centralized database and wireless communication which provides remote control over various domestic appliances. By means of an internet connection using smartphone or website, the system allows the user to operate it from anywhere around the world; monitor his/her house from outside, thus providing security of home as well as health conditions of ailing persons from remote places. This system is designed to be cost-efficient and is also expandable since it allows a large variety of devices to be controlled using different sensors. The paper has named as SmarThings as it describes a smart and compact solution for home automation, surveillance, and health monitoring using Internet of Things.
