Abstract
The design and analysis of employing tubular linear induction motor (TLIM) as a capsule pump for a large pneumatic capsule pipeline (PCP) system have shown promising results for practical implementation. The PCP fluid mechanics equations are used to determine the steady state thrust and rated capsule speed inside the TLIM. These parameters are then used as specifications to design the TLIM stator. In this paper, experiments are performed on a small-scale PCP-TLIM system. The results are compared with the TLIM theoretical predictions based on the modified equivalent circuits. The results verify that basic equivalent circuits can be used to satisfactory predicts the TLIM thrust for a PCP-TLIM system.
