Abstract

Single crystals of ( Mg 1- x Fe x )( Al 1- y Fe y ) 2 O 4 were grown by the floating zone method, and examined using Mössbauer spectroscopy. The iron sites were determined by means of X-ray and neutron diffraction, and agreed with the result of Mössbauer spectroscopy. There is no dependence on direction of incident gamma ray on intensities of the Mössbauer spectra. This effect and the FWHM broadening was interpreted in terms of a distribution of the electrical field gradient at 57 Fe nuclei.
