Abstract

Poultry nutrition investigators will all agree no doubt, that nutrition, often called the chemistry of life, is a very complex science. Many details of the perplexing questions of protein utilization, inorganic requirements, vitamin requirements, etc. still remain imperfectly answered. Meanwhile, poultry producers are asking for advice on rations that are satisfactory and economical and we are expected to use the best information now available to help solve the feeding problem.There is, of course, almost an unlimited list of ingredients which might be used in making chick rations. In the corn belt, however, the basic feeds are corn, the wheat milling by-products, bran and shorts, and meat and bone scraps. Most of these feeds are easily available in corn belt communities while other elements which might be used are harder to get, and consequently are more expensive. The very practical questions which are immediately asked are: Can a satisfactory ration .
