Abstract

In this article, our purpose is to show how the journalistic chronicles later assembled by Maria Velho da Costa in Desescrita are an important turning point from her first novel, Maina Mendes, to her subsequent fiction. To this end, we place a special focus on the problem of verbal language and the way it is transfigured so as to create a new literature, free from the constraints of an outdated patriarchal tradition.
