“She was not an outsider artist”

Abstract

This interview was conducted with Dr. Thomas Röske, director of the Prinzhorn Collection Museum on May 30th, 2023, focusing on three main issues: introducing the artist Elfriede Lohse-Wächtler and her oeuvre in relation to her history as a visual artist in the nineteen-twenties and thirties; discussing her status as an artist affected by psychiatric experience [psychiatrisch Erfahrung], and reporting on the acquisition process of this significant estate for the museum.
